Ariella Uliano – A.U. (almost) a Compilation

Notes
Italian vocalist and song-writer Ariella Uliano offers us a breathtaking and unique album, perhaps her best to date. Ariella’s A.U. (almost) a Compilation is a mix of original material and traditional ballads performed with pure and unaffected soprano voice in Italian and English and accompanied by an ensemble of virtuoso musicians.
Many the gems in Ms Uliano’s collection, with two songs from the great English tradition that are in my opinion outstanding: Walter Scott’s Ellen’s Third Song (from: The Lady Of The Lake – Hymn To The Virgin, for most of us Schubert’s Ave Maria), and Child’s ballad The Three Ravens (new version).
Non Parlar Troppo D’Amore and Canto D’Autunno are two autobiographical canzoni sung in Italian, and here Ariella’s voice is especially beautiful. The single Canto D’Autunno has won several song contests in Italy.
A special mention also goes to the rock ballad Untitled live – recorded in Rome for BBC, with guitarist Osamu Yano and Ariella’s partner Renzo Frontoni – and Good Morning London, a song accompanied by a music video shot in London. The single Good Morning London has also won two song contests in the UK and USA.
So, We’ll Go No More A-Roving and In The Bleak Midwinter, with words by Lord Byron and Christina Rossetti, together with Salley Gardens by W B Yeats are also included in the album, which comes with a 32 page libretto with lyrics, B/W artwork and colour photographs.
Ariella’s A.U. (almost) a Compilation is a must-have album for traditional and world music collectors and for fans of English literature.
Ariella is regularly invited to speak on Literature, Music and Dance at various educational events both in Italy and in the UK.

If you love Jane Austen’s dances, check out Mr. Beveridge’s Maggot and Minuet from Ariella’s CD
In Leave Only Your Footsteps Behind Ariella Uliano performs original songs and ballads with instrumentalists from Italy, Austria, Japan, England and Ireland, a touch of classical, country and jazzy and a fine example of slow rock piece.
The title-track Leave Only Your Footsteps Behind by Ariella Uliano features bluesman Will Killeen on guitars and banjo. My favourites: Robert Burns’ Red Rose and a version of The Wraggle Taggle Gipsies for voice, guitar and violin.

Ariella Uliano – Tanto Gentile E Tanto Onesta Pare
Choose this CD for only £9.99 inclusive of P&P
Ariella Uliano’s album Tanto Gentile E Tanto Onesta Pare (the title of a poem by Dante Alighieri, translated in English by Dante G.Rossetti as ‘My Lady Looks So Gentle And So Pure’) links together the tradition of Celtic and English balladry with the poetry of Medieval and Renaissance Italy.
Songs and poetry are connected by themes of love and the seasons.
Ariella’s Tanto Gentile E Tanto Onesta Pare features Medieval poetry by Dante Alighieri from The Divine Comedy – his meeting with the lovers Paolo & Francesca in Canto V – and from Vita Nova (New Life).
Ariella’s CD also includes the poem by the Italian Renaissance ‘poetessa’ Gaspara Stampa Arsi, Piansi, Cantai, words by Lorenzo De’ Medici from Canzona Di Bacco and a lyric by Lorenzo’s tutor and humanist Angelo Poliziano entitled I’ Mi Trovai, Fanciulle Un Bel Mattino.
The singles Tanto Gentile E Tanto Onesta Pare and Sumer (is I-cumen in) are also available on DVD.
My favourites: Mary Hamilton, She’s Like The Swallow and The Lover’s Ghost played on the pianoforte by Stefan Oslansky, enjoy. The Publisher
